Hmmmm i think what we need to "advertise" the site is not only word of mouth but for a couple of sellers to do what ebay had when it first hit started to hit headlines, list some daft auctions about a tadpole that looks like satan or something.......if a few auctions like that are set up, they get noticed on the student sites etc, and the word of mouth takes off from there
Also Ebid....you have what could be a key marketing tool, 60 minute auctions, fleabay dosnt have that feature
At the moment you have a catch 22 situation with the auctions, items are too high as there arnt many buyers, but how can buyers be attracted to the site when prices are too high........................
I don't think the prices are high because there aren't many buyers - common sense dictates that if something isn't selling, you have to reduce the price.
There may be items that are listed too high, by people with zero feedback, but that's the nature of a free auction site- anybody can list for free, so it's no loss to them whether it sells or not (and in some cases, maybe they don't actually have any goods to sell, if you know what I mean...)
I definitely don't think prices are too high - just the opposite!
IMHO eBid is like eBay before it introduced the £50 minimum reserve when you could bid on an auction and actually pick up a bargain.
If there is one thing I personally don't like it is 'auctions' where the starting bid only a few pence below the BIN price. People are much more likely to bid if you start an auction for a low price and set a reserve. BTW my own reserves are NOT just below the BIN price LOL!.
