Thread: Uproar on ebay

    Hi,

Another eBay refugee here. I'm not burning my boats yet with eBay because I want to use it to drive custom to me on eBid and my new web store. On eBay I send a printed sheet with any item I sell and I have now changed that to explain why I am moving to eBid. Also, I get a lot of questions about my eBay items and so I have started explaining the situation to them in my replies - 2 out of 2 so far have said they will be following me to eBid (offered postal discounts!). Emailing all your old buyers is spamming and if I was one of those buyers I'm afraid it would put me off completely. On eBay a buyer can say if they want email communications from you through the 'subscription' option - that will be the only way I'll be using email over this.

Get eBay to work for you not the other way around while you build up on eBid - that's my approach!

I have also signed the worldwide petition against the changes even though I know it won't make any difference but it made me feel better!

Just hope the eBid servers are up to the job - I couldn't get on at all yesterday!

    Just my 10p's worth!

Hi & welcome, it seems there were some little glitches yesterday, there have been some major changes to the site over the last couple of months, the site's admin have worked very hard in not only implementing new features etc but in listening & replying to members suggestions & problems. As little snags crop up, they are dealing with them, i guess this could interfere temporarily with certain aspects of the site. I had no problems using the site yesterday so i'm not sure why you couldn't access it, i hope you really enjoy your stay here. Good luck.

My auctions, good prices, fair p&p.

If anyone wants to nick the bottom bit- feel free!
You don't actually mention Ebid by name on it, which is a shame, as a lot of people will wonder what the "other auction site" is, but won't come here!

But it's exactly the sort of thing I meant - an image of text can't be searched by Feepay, so as long as they don't look at your individual auction, they'll never see it!

erm, well it looks like something interesting has happened to it- I think ebay have blocked this jpg from been viewed! but its ok- I have a back up plan. I will report back!
    I have reanamed it http://www.thepixelpeople.com/ebay/bannednotice.jpg
so that you can at least see what they didn't like!
For me, notice worked, bannednotice didn't? Problem on your server perhaps?

Whereas eBay can use bots to search for text refs to ebid, they can't do that with images, as you realise. But remember that they have a huge number of people browsing, and at least some of them are pro-eBay anti-eBid (hard to believe, isn't it!). So you're vulnerable to being reported for abusing the rules. And once your card is marked, it doesn't take much imagination to suppose you'll be subject to occasional random checks by a staffer.

But I can't see how anyone can object to including a note with your goods, mentioning eBid. I do.

I dont think theres anything that isnt allowed in it now. You are right, theres not much point in geting our noses off (YET)
My listings ask people to read my about me page for more details (of where I am moving to etc) There is a link on my about me page to ebid.
As we are allowed to advertise our own webites and anyone elses there, I would be suprised if theres a regulation stating specifically that we cant make a link to ebid.
Would someone like to ask ebay if we are allowed to advertise our new location seeing as they have forced us to leave- they'd have a bloomin nerve- (nothing new).

I 'm pretty sure that the off site buying rule only applies to the particular item in the ebay listing.

If theres anything you want to buy on ebay, email the seller and tell them that if they list a 'similar' item on ebid- you'll buy it!
Explain that its against trade union rules to buy from ebay anymore, and that as its against ebays rules to offer to buy 'that particular item' off site, you can only offer to buy one 'very similar to it'.

You can also tell people via your ebay listings, that you sell x and y, 'please ask if you can't see it, or you want it listed'.
If people ask for things that arent listed (yet) you can tell them that you have none on ebay at the moment/ anymore, but one can be found in your ebid shop (cheaper).

Then send them a sign up to ebid link (from your buddy point section of your ebid hq to get some buddy points.)

    Smile ebay are evil

Sod ebay I am going to promote ebid as much as i can before they chuck me out. I was going to close my shop anyway as the new way does not do it for me. Am about to start with ebid.
    Let's get this started.

Moving on to Ebid from Ebay, One question, after buying Gold - To post galley version, for items between £2 and £9.99, just 10p fees? There must some hidden fees i'm missing?

    anyone?

You don't pay ANYTHING to list or relist. If you sell and you chose to include a gallery picture you pay the 10p - I know it is gobsmacking at first after eBay!
Check out my shop at http://uk.ebid.net/stores/The-IKEA-Plus-Shop
    • IKEA - great items on offer (Special request service offered!)
    • PLUS - lots of other goodies too!

    gobsmacking is the word,
This means on Ebay I need to up the price just to break even, as soon as the price hike happens, but can actaully lower the prices if I move them here.
Seems like a good way to make sure my customers follow me.

Also I've just added this to the bottom of my invoices:

    (ebid Logo)
    Cheaper Fees than eBay =
    Cheaper Prices than eBay!
    http://uk.ebid.net/stores/Scandinavian-and-Nordic-Music

With the type of items I sell, I get alot of repeat buyers, so I starting to think this can actaully work on Ebid now.
(I tried about 6 months ago, no sales so gave up)
