Smile I'm looking for a valuer of an old mirror. help!

    Hello,

I bought a long mirror and am told it is over 200 years old. I cannot find reasonable priced valuers to see if it's worth anything. If anyone knows where I may find one or point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. {I've already let my fingers do the walking through the yellow pages and the internet}.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi and welcome.

You may have come across these already, but on the other hand you may not

    http://www.yell.com/quickclicks/SP/A...Middlesbrough/

There is also http://www.saltburnsalerooms.co.uk/ they do valuations.

Is it a French or English Mirror?. If French this is a great website, with pictures and prices. http://www.debreanski.freeserve.co.uk/showrooms.htm

    Good luck

Most auction houses have free valuation sessions, usually one day each week. They hope to find items which can be sold by them, but this is never a condition of the valuation and there is no pressure to sell your item. They will usually tell you how much you could expect to achieve at auction. If you want a current 'replacement value' (i.e. how much you would have to pay in an antique shop) you can at least double this figure and not be far out.

If you go 'on spec' to one of the smaller local auction houses, they will often get someone to look at your item there and then, though they won't have lots of 'experts' like the big national/international auction houses.

You could ask in a reputable antique shop, though they may only be interested in telling you how much they would offer you for your item. Bear in mind that they would at least double this price if the item was for sale in their shop.Bear in mind also that they are not all 'reputable' and may undervalue items in the hope of buying from you at a silly price.

    Hope this helps.
