There is a way around all the MS BS run another OS. I just went through this for a customer, the computer had so many viruses and spyware that the virus programs couldn't get it all cleaned up and it kept coming back.

The original OEM cd was AWOL and the activation key wouldn't work with a non OEM copy or another OEM copy. So it was either pay MS another $100 or use something else. I installed Ubuntu Linix on it and they are happy as he**. The PC is faster and doen't crash any more.

    Oh yea Ubuntu was Free......

When installing Windows on your PC you read all the bumpfh which is very long legal speel and you tick yes. Except nobody does read the legal speel and if you did you can see that you never own the MS Windows you have just paid for, it is Microsoft's, and they have allowed you to use it, and can recall it at any point. A bit like credit cards, banks, houses (the UK government can have your house, if they want, in the contract).

People just don't read the small print before accepting anything & they should.

    Pfft.

Go Ubuntu, it's better. Faster, easier (once you get used to it), no bloat, and best of all, FREE. No messing with licence keys, activation, it calling home with a detailed inventory of what's on your computer just in case you have something the OS doesn't think ought to be there, and as many installs as you like.
