Sometimes Medication can cause an allergic reaction to hair dyes, that have been used with no problem many times before.
My mate who is a hairdresser always asks if the customer is on medication (BEFORE) she uses any dyes or bleaches, even though they may be long standing customers.Any doubt she just won't do it, without the customer signing a waiver.
Home hair dyeing can be a minefield.
LOL I once went (bright orange) But after a phone call to the labs number on the box, they told me what to do, and It turned out okay in the end.

you are meant to do a test each time before you use a chemical based product as your body can become allergic to substances suddenly when they havent been a problem before.

Dunno about any other products, but hair dyes Always tell you to do a patch test. 24 hrs ? before use.
Suppose the 24 hours gives time for any allergic reaction to show.

daft thing about the patch test is that you have to mix the dye first, do the patch test and wait 24hrs ... BUT I am sure it says you have to use the dye within 6 to 8hrs of mixing it
