Thread: Searching -- hate retyping

    Default Searching -- hate retyping

I don't feel that searching is easy on this site (though of course I'm ever so glad the facility exists at all). And since searching is probably one of the first things a new visitor does on an auction site, it's perhaps something that's worth a lot of effort getting as right as can be.

Try putting in, as an example Olympus OM. You may get some current auctions. You're thinking of selling your old Olympus camera, so this is encouraging. What price did previous auctions reach? You can find out, but you must type in those keywords again. And each time you do a search, the input box is cleared, you must retype, even though perhaps you just wanted to change to Olympus lens or Olympus flash.

Now compare it with [SFX Jaws music], ... sorry ... eBay.

You type in Olympus OM. You get the current auctions. You do JUST ONE CLICK to get completed auctions. You do JUST ONE MORE CLICK to refine the search further, going down into specific categories.

I'm sure that design wasn't done in just a day. They've worked very hard on it to make it slick.

I suggested this 2 years ago and had a positive reply but wait - the guys are worked off their feet - so maybe in another 2 years.

Alot of search improvements in v5.0
    eg.
    Keyword search results category split
    User search results category split

I will look at implementing a closed auction keyword search link also on search result pages.
