    Default Closing auctions early

We havent had the "can i close my (bidded) auction early" chat recently .. What are peoples thouhghts on that?

I personally dont think it is a good idea. When people come to an auction they see the length of time it has to run... They plan their bids around this closing time. Closing an auction early defeats the idea of having a timed auction..

    Thoughts anyone?

    I'm with you.

I like to wait til nearer the end to bid, if it's taken off early, that's a bit less money for the seller.

I guess some would like the option - but then again, there is still Buy-it-now isn't there?

    Is it over yet?

think it would be a good idea if the seller could give a genuine reason for doing so (holiday, hospital etc)

otherwise i think it could be open to abuse eg seller not getting the price they want etc etc

    just my opinion anyway

Think its a good idea Gazza....cos it cuts out the selling out of auction.. 8)

I agree.... I don't normally bid on things untilt he last minute.... its more fun that way.

For most appointments you get a weeks notice anyway.. so you would at least be able to emai lthe auction winner to say you would be away for x amoun tof time.....

The buynow option disappears after the first bid is made... We did this for the same reason that we dont currently allow bidded auction to close early... The time factor..
    .
Maybe a seller could click a button saying "closing auction" and then there could be a minimum 2 hr gap before it actually closes, we can email current bidders and watchers to notify them the auction is closing in 2 hrs or something similar...

can you not make it so that in the edit auction details you can reduce the days til close instead even when a bid has been placed same as being able to reduce your reserve but not increase it.

if you understand what i mean

Some people want to make a quick sell if the bidding has reached a satisfactory price for them.... Although this would make it harder in our fight against fraud because we'd have less time to spot a bad auction. Unscupulous sellers could exploit new users as well easier if this was available...
