Thread: AOL Broadband On 2 PCs

  1. #1

Default AOL Broadband On 2 PCs

Hi, we have ordered AOL Broadband.

The thing is we want to use it on 2 computers over a network. It is not nessacery that we both be online at the same time but that would be best.

What I need to know is, what software do we need (Apart from AOL 8.0)? (If any) and what hardware do we need to buy (Apart from the things that come in the AOL Kit)?

    Any help will appreciated!

    Thank you.

I dont knwo what coems in the AOL kit but I would imagien it was just a standard broadband modem and whatever software goes with that.

To have both computers onlien using braodband at the same time you need a router (such as the one this great seller is advertising :P )

Apart form that you will need a network card in each PC (which i can supply you with 4.00 each) and a linkign cable between them

    Hope this help

We already have a network in place with 2 network cards and a cable but we need the newer type cards and cables? Which ones are you selling?

eBuyer sell wireless WI-FI routers for £48.18

I think that would be better?

You will need one of the wireless routers and two of the adpators if you weant a wireless network.

Also if you decide to get a new network and dont know what to do with your old network cards/cables i might be intersted in buying them

I would say that, if you've already got a network in place and the two PCs can talk to each other, all you need to do is plug your broadband modem into one PC and set it to share it's internet connection (Start > Connect to>Your ISP>Advanced>Internet Connection sharing). Then on the other PC, in Internet Explorer (for example) click Tools>Internet Options and choose to "Connect over LAN".

No need to buy additional hardware to share your internet connection. I did this last year when i bought my new PC and I connected to it my old PC using a cross-over cable to transfer my data between the two PCs.
