Thread: oh good GRIEF do I need help with a CD writer!!

Default oh good GRIEF do I need help with a CD writer!!

Ok so I bought a second hand CD writer (Yamaha 2100), which I know works (cos I've checked it in another PC!). It's connected as a secondary slave on the middle IDE connector with the original secondary master on the top connector. All jumpers are in the correct place, auto-detect is set in the BIOS. The IDE controller is set to enable both primary and secondary. I've swapped to every conceivable combination, but the PC will NOT boot with this drive connected. Originally I was running 98SE, but upgraded to ME in the hope that the IDE controller upgrade would sort the issue. I've tried another different CD drive in the same place, works fine. The BIOS is recognising the drives and naming them correctly. Booting from floppy enables me to access both drives, but Windows just hangs. Any suggestions? Please Please Please!

    Fixed!!
and for any of with the same problem this was the ultimate solution:

    boot in safe
disable secondary IDE controller in hardware profile
    reboot in full
    remove IDE controller
    reboot in full...

    et voila!
