Just for anyone's interest, these days a 160GB 3.5" (standard desktop) hard drive is about £45 new, so you shouldn't be paying any more than £35 second hand delivered. With 1TB (1,000 GB) hard drives becoming more the norm and not costing the earth, anything less than 120GB is practically worthless. Just the way technology goes! I remember when a 10MB hard drive was impressive.. *sigh*
Boy are you young! My first computer had a 540 mbs HD a 1 gig was $500.00 and was not out yet. It had 4 megs of ram I paid 144.00 for 4 megs of ram to upgrade it to 8 megs. Before this a friend of mine played a game on his by changing floppy disks! Don't remember the name.

Old thread but just a quick update.

If you do not have a clue about what goes on inside your pc case and need to add an hardrive just buy an external one which connect to your pc via a usb or esata connector for those who have one.

And on another point buying a second hand HD is really not a good idea. Why? Simply you do not have a clue about how old it is how many hours it's been used for etc... it's like playing russian roulette with your data unless you backup often.
