    Hiya,

As already said above, you need to get yourself an ADSL Router/Firewall.

That is what I did.........Current setup for me is :-

Telewest Broadband Cable Modem plugged into a Linksys ADSL Router / Firewall / 4 Port Hub.....attached to that is 2 PC's running XP, 1 Novell Netware 5 Server and 1 Belkin Wireless Access Point.

Connected into the Wireless Network is1 of my Laptops, still to get the other 1 working (it's a bit old).

All was extremely easy to setup and requires no extra software to stop folk hacking as the NAT (Network Address Translation) and Firewall in the Router take care of all of that.

Hope this helps.......If you want more indepth on how to configure it, give me a shout........It's what I do all day anyway (Network Support Analyst) ;-)

    Good luck with it.

I just told him about the router & he said it confirmed what he had suspected...and thank you...

I don't think I had better put a reserve price on- might not sell....

He just said he wouldn't bother with a reserve I might sell that way,
but says that payment would have to be a years supply of Baked Beans...
& Carling....he said he couldn't exchange me for money, he didn't want to diddle the buyer!
ops:

Funny that, when we got together I asked my Dad if we got married would he give me away, ....

    he said

"give you away..... I'd throw you away!!   :lol

    Hi Guys,

You dont actually need a Hub or router

    You need the following:

    1) A ADSL Modem
    2) A Network card (In both machines)
    3) A Crossover Network cable (Connect to both computers)
    4) Windows XP.

Then you need to run the Windows XP Home network setup and ICS (internet connection sharing) and volia you can use two computers to surf the web. :-)

    To answer the obvious question...
'Why do people need routers then?'

This setup requires that one PC is Master (with ADSL modem going in)
    and must be switched on.
The other PC is slave and can only access net if master is up and running.

Lock the master and have to reboot.... the slave loses its connection too.

    So use a router and:-
More than two PC's can share the connection
Any PC can access regardless of the other machines.
Other peripherals (scanner/printer etc) can also be 'networked' in.

who runs a network using a hub because he isn't on broadband.
