On yahoo you could only see the 'watchers' if you were logged in and looking at your own auction. That meant that buyers couldn't see it.

Yes F3, thats how I think it should work as its for the sellers benefit after all.

Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.
It does have some good sides to it, but then again sometimes I watch an item if I have the same, just to see how much it goes for.
I shall add my 10 pence worth and say that it is a great idea, when I used to sell on Yahoo it gave you an idea if something was getting real interest rather than clicks. Like people have been saying it makes you feel a bit better if you know someone is watching.
Yes I do that too actually hotpants.

yer I suppose so, I have'nt seen it in action so it's hard for me to comment, it could be a buzz though, keep you on your toes to the end.
I think the one way it helps is if you have an item that isn't getting many bids but it well below what you want. That way you can see if there is the potential for last minute bids or not.
Doesn't always work I have to say... I've had things on Yahoo watched by loads of ppl then not get sold!

hi,
stumbled across this post quite by accident ops:
please don't try the eBay script on eBid, it won't work as it's designed for eBay pages. and modifying it won't help either ... although the JavaScript is fairly simple the server-side functions are a bit more complex.
the best bet on eBid is going to be getting the development guys to code this in. it's not rocket science to query their own database to get this data.
eBay don't listen to user requests (really ??) so i wrote this app just to prove it could be done. if eBid don't implement anything let me know and i'll put together an eBid specific version for you to use if you want. their HTML isn't quite as 'friendly' for me as eBays, but it would be fairly easy to do. (anyone know of JavaScript limitations/restrictions on here ?)
