How do you come up with your prices?

From what I've read, which isn't much as it's not a strategy that anyone selling one-off items could use. It relies on bulk-buying something that is a consistently good seller (say staples). Sell them for nothing in the hope that the buyer will buy other stuff "while they're there", at a price with some profit. The incentive to do that being the combined postage, which because the seller is sending large numbers of packages they can get at discounted rates.

By charging over the counter rates to the buyer, they claw back some / all ? of their loss on the staples.

It all seems a bit risky to me!

I do like to be able to see "SOLD" items on sites.
1) To get an what the going prices are and then mark accordingly.
2) If the item is saleable and if a lot have been sold.
( I also check what is currently for sale so that I can take in the full picture. )

I learn to spot check items that I use to make other items (gemstones / pendants etc) and found out that they are selling at a higher price than what I had purchased them for.
I have some pendants that I purchased from $3-$6 each and if you can find them for sale, they ARE selling for $15-$25 each. So I can use this information to adjust my prices for the increase if I wanted another one.

I guess I have it easy with my pricing. Some of my CDs are on commission; also, filk CDs is a very niche market. The artists have prices in mind for their items, so I go around that. I may charge more depending. I'll also do a search to see how a CD is doing in other places; if it's listed or not.

I have one Celtic CD that apparently is worth at least $80 judging by the market. I'm not sure I want to list a CD that much, so when I've got my way around places I'll be listing it for regular auction somewhere and let the buyers decide what it's worth to them.

I generally do a google search and list mine at a reasonable price accordingly. My cards I list for what they cost to make plus fees except for ones that took hours or even days to complete, then I add a wee bit extra.
