Thread: Goodbye Harri...

  1. #1

    Default Goodbye Harri...

It's nearly 3:30 am on Thursday...I'd have been here sooner but mt internet payed up for a short while.

I shall not repeat th Harri saga except to say that he was now much better with other dogs when out walking. He had many friends.

At 1 a.m. I had to cross the Thames to Dartford. The local vet has main offices there and I needed them. Harri had fallen off his big armchair and at first I thought he'd hurt a leg. In fact when I checked him over thoroughly, I realised that the reverse was the case. Something had happened to make him fall....he'd had a stroke, poor old boy.

I rang the vets and was told I was probably wrong ....I insisted so was told to bring him to HQ. So at 1 a.m. I was off over the Thames. He was checked...and I was right, I'm afraid. Nothing could be done for him of course, so I said goodbye to him. In the morning I shall go into the local branch and pay the bill.

At least he had one decent year of life and was quite a happy boy these last few months.

I'll let the Dogs' Trust people now tomorrow and come the New Year, with all back to normal, shall take on another.

It's a strange feeling and not like losing a dog you've had since a pup. There's sadness, but a slight feeling of achievement too - very odd. I'm so glad I did it.

I'm so sorry to read this Ian. Harri was a very lucky dog to have been given a home by you.

Well done for all your love and patience with him.

Ah, sad to hear this, at least you gave him as good a life you could for his final time here.

Thank you all so much. I'm late here as I did not wake until 9:45 a.m.

Bill was double as it was during the night. Perhaps I should have left him lying there, frightened and confused, until the morning! What happens if you are stony broke I wonder? Aaah...perhaps that's where the PDSA comes in. Makes a sort of sense....
    ...
I showered this morning as usual and went to put on a new T-shirt only to find it was one about Shih-Tzus...so I put it back in the wardrobe and chose another...oh dear!

So kind, buttons - thanks. As I said recently, in this type of situation I continue to hear his paws tip-tapping on the vinyl flooring...ah well... something will turn up, I'm sure!

So sorry for you, you gave him a good year.
You will no doubt also give the same care for the next dog that let's you be his friend.
    Take care and stay safe.

I'm so sorry, Camb.....it's a shock when it happens so fast. Same thing happened to a stray cat that came to live with us 2 years ago. But she just fell ove...and was gone. Sometimes it quick, sometimes not so, but nothing else you can do but give yourself the hugs Harri would now for the love you have given. xx
    Ta-Ta for now!
