Thread: Will eBid be taking any action against the proposed online sales tax ?

Default Will eBid be taking any action against the proposed online sales tax ?

Small businesses face being hit with another sales tax as Rishi Sunak considers launching a digital sales tax for goods sold online.

Etsy have launched a petition to send to the government about this matter. Is eBid going to protest at all ? Big businesses selling online might be able to swallow the increase but small sellers who work from home with marginal profits are really going to suffer if this tax is imposed.

How would this affect private sellers?

I don't know how they would divide private and those registered as a business. It looks like it's just a blanket tax for any online sales from what I've read, I could be wrong though !

I fail to see how people who are making personalised craft items or knitting phone covers for a tenner are taking away business from high street stores.

    Maybe I am missing something.

The vast majority of stamp sellers are only online now. A 2% tax levy will make things difficult for those of us who have already suffered a major downfall in profit. Anything more will mean a lot of sellers will just shut up shop. It will also hit the disabled and disadvantaged doubly hard. I can only hope Mr Sunak has really considered the consequences.

It would be easier for HMRC to tax Ebid 2% of the 1% Ebid receive from me on each sale. If I were a taxman, that is how I would approach it.

I have asked whether to include profit and loss from selling as a hobbyist on Ebid in self-assessment tax, and the answer is no if I am not registered as a business or paying VAT.

So, on a rough calculation on my sales fees in the last year, for about 2000 items sold, that amounts to £0.40.

I am not going to lose any sleep over that.
