The problem is quite simple to see, as Deano has pointed out -

The problem with the notice has been detailed on the numerous posts above - the site is inviting questions when it shouldn't.

Sometimes when on holiday it is not practical to answer questions. Buyers do realize that - they go on holiday as well. The problem with the notice has been detailed on the numerous posts above - the site is inviting questions when it shouldn't.

The continued presence of listings online whilst someone is on holiday is of benefit to eBid - it is the listings that bring the majority of people to eBid from organic search engines. That awareness brings in buyers and more importantly sellers. Those listings are probably more an advert for eBid than eBid is an advert for sellers. A holiday listing that brings someone on to eBid can open up many avenues - they may buy when the seller re-opens - they will almost certainly take a look to see what other sellers are selling - and they now realize there is an alternative site to sell on. So to advocate closing the listings whilst on holiday would cost eBid huge amounts of sales and potential new sellers.

And depending on where they are, they may not have internet access during this time either.

Putting listings on hold for a week or two is ideal for such a situation as this - but NOT closing them completely.

Another screen shot from a previous query about Holiday Notices showing original wording which is what we need to get back to.

I see the Holiday Notice conflict continues....... and eBid still chooses to speak to folk on my behalf...... not considerate.

In spite of this, I have, however, again shown eBid the courtesy of consideration by removing my request for uploads to google shopping so that I am not incurring costs during my break away.

    I quote Sucadot here:

"How can I answer a question about an item when I'm away on holiday and the item is at home?!"

Agreed. Almost all of the thread participants see a problem, yet it's still not been sorted!

no... because eBid, sadly, no longer seem to respond that well to our comments. It is partly because we really have nowhere else to go now.

Please, Mark & Gazza, change this. It really matters for all of us. We, the sellers, are your customers. We need a holiday notice that does not invite questions because we want to offer the buyers, source of our income from this site, the best possible service.

    This really matters.

Please! I can't answer questions when I'm not in the same place as my items.

    .

    Exactly!

Further, I have not given eBid permission to dictate on my behalf in my holiday playpen.

We're currently working on a change to the system to allow Q&A not to be in play under a holiday notice.

I'm a little reluctant to change the Q&A as the system is nearly 20 years old so is tried and tested and anything that gives the site a more stale and less interactive feel isn't something I easily jump towards. If a potential buyer comes in and sees an item they're interested in then until now there has always been the potential to keep the sale alive when under a holiday notice by making contact with the seller. Without the immediate contact and interaction then the buyer could well disappear. They're knocking at the door but there's no-one there to answer it.

With email via smartphones today and also our app pinging you the second you get a question I would vote to keep it as it is personally, but democracy has spoken so we'll get it done in the next week hopefully. We'll keep it on as default and you will have to turn it off under the notice setting page.

Thx as always for the input,
    Gazza

There is a misunderstanding here I feel...........

All I was asking for, Gazza, was the removal of the sentence/invitation "Feel free to contact the Seller using the Ask Question button below" which is a fairly recent addition by eBid to your notice.

There has been no request for an alteration to the 20 year old Q&A system.
