Thread: Postage for knitting patterns

  1. #1

    Default Postage for knitting patterns

Sell really well on TOS but 2020 is going to be my year for re-listing on eBid

All my patterns are dispatched in Do Not Bend card backed envelopes. Is this really necessary I wonder? They are so expensive and my usual charge of £1.05 barely covers P&P.

Would appreciate advice from pattern sellers, please.

    Thank you.

Yes, it is necessary though I use cornflake packets in ordinary envelopes as well as reusing stiffened envelopes that arrive in the post here.

Yes, I agree they need some form of reinforcement and wouldn't entertain sending without. I considered using buff A4 envelopes with craft card from Poundland but not much saved there.

Oh well, Do Not Bend envelopes it remains, then.

    Thank you, Madelaine.

I use A 4 envelopes and use card which I have cut down from boxes which have held goods, such as toys or electrical items or if non of those available I often go around the supermarket collecting empty trays off the shelves which have held food, I flatten as I go around then when I get home I just tear the sides off as they only about an inch high. A few weeks ago in Morrisons I laughed with the checkout operator that I had been helping the staff clear the empty cardboard from the shelves, they can clearly see that nothing is hidden as it is all packed flat in the trolley and I explain what I am using it for, no problem yet.

That is a good idea, but I usually find that using card from boxes weighs a fair bit heavier than a board envelope. It also makes all the difference to PIP when pattern booklets are borderline.
I will continue to use my usual envelopes, but thank you for your reply.

Edit to say that I do use card from boxes if posting expensive cross stitch kits.

Exactly the same as I do. Those Amazon envelopes are very handy

I don't sell knitting patterns, but I do sell comics, and I use A4 card-backed envelopes with "Please Do Not Bend" written on them.
If you buy in bulk (I usualy buy in batches of 125 envelopes) you can get them for less than £0.20 each.

Of course to buy them like that means having to buy off of the other site

    Hope this helps.

Oh, No, it doesn't! This is where I buy mine!

As it is not my listing, I think I can add it here.

Thanks, but I get 125 for about £18.00 on the other site which unfortunately beats the price on the link
