Website Link error - 404 Page Not Found

Hello

On a majority of my listings I have so far put HTML links to my Ebid shops and also a link to 'My All About Me' page, but there is a problem.

Whilst the links to my ebid shops work fine, and the URL look like this:

https://www.ebid.net/uk/stores/green-fingers
https://www.ebid.net/uk/stores/book-wise
https://www.ebid.net/uk/stores/clothes-hanger
https://www.ebid.net/uk/stores/adore-decor
https://www.ebid.net/uk/stores/thrifty-trinkets

My About Me URL should look like this:
https://www.ebid.net/uk/users/MarketPal/all-about-me/


But the URL of the link to my About Me Page looks like this with the extra automatic code results in a 404 Page Not Found:
https://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/htt.../all-about-me/

Where are you clicking that gives you the corrupted link? I'm seeing your All About Me page both clicking here and in your listings.

This is the URL that the produces the corrupt link:

Are you getting still reaching the About You page on the link or the 404 that I see?

When I create my listings I do use

https://www.ebid.net/uk/users/MarketPal

code as an HTML link as you have suggested.

But Ebid automatically adds the prefix

 https://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/

thus corrupting the original link and taking it to a 404 Page Not Found.
How can I stop Ebid from adding extra coding and breaking the link to My About Me page?

Yet the HTML links to my Ebid shops, the link goes to the correct page as intended.


Is anybody else experiencing the same issue?

I can't look over your shoulder to see what you are doing or how you are doing it. That means I cannot tell if it is an eBid or user (finger trouble) problem.

The only thing I can suggest is to delete the unwanted part (https://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/) from the link.

If you have a live listing displaying the problem then post a link to it or provide a listing id number and I'll take a look.

But the (https://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/) prefix is not written in the HTML part of the listing. I don't put this prefix and Ebid doesn't add it at this stage. I have no control over this unnecessary prefix. Only after somebody 'clicks' About Me then the prefix is added to the URL as the page is loading.

Please try the About Me link on any of the following listings:

Sorry for the delay I was busy with other stuff until today.

Well... I've had a look and admit to being baffled as to why it is doing what it is doing.

I created a test listing [ https://www.ebid.net/uk/for-sale/test-listing-xxx-183431448.htm ] and added three links near the bottom;

The first is copied and pasted from your source code. This displays the problem.

The second is my About Me link. This does not display the problem.

The third is your About Me link entered my me. This does not display the problem.

There are some issues with your link in your code:

<A " href=“https://www.ebid.net/uk/users/MarketPal/all-about-me/”  title="my Ebid policies" style="color: #121db8"  rel="nofollow">"All About Me"</a>

First, there is a spurious quote character following the A near the start: <A " href....

Second, the quote characters surrounding the link are not normal HTML quote characters: “...” instead of "..." or '...'

Third, as said previously, the link does not require the /all-about-me/ at the end. The correct line should read, based on your initial entry:

<a href="https://www.ebid.net/uk/users/MarketPal" title="my eBid policies" style="color:#121db8;" rel="nofollow">"All About Me"</a>

Try copying and pasting the above corrected link in place of the one you currently have and see if the problem goes away.

You have solved the problem. I had previously been looking at my code but unable to see what I was doing differently to the other links.

Its still a mystery to me as to why it should be creating the weird URL it did.

Though I have noticed in the past that unbalanced quotes can have some rather odd and elusive knock on effects in HTML code.

If you look at the two HTML snippets in my previous post you can see, by the colour coding, that the syntax parser is seeing the two entirely differently.

Always worth running your code through a validator such as https://validator.w3.org to pick up any goofs.
