The first search you make will endure a quick check currently, after this you should be clear as long as you are human and don't have any overly restrictive settings on your browser.

At what point during the listing process is a captcha being requested?

    Thx,

I get it after hitting the Proceed To Preview Stage button.

All it is (for me) is a 'tick the box'. No finding numbers or things in pictures so hardly onerous, just a break in the flow. Better that if it makes the site more resilient.

Isn't it possible to block the DDoS attack without using Couldflare? It's a shame that a smooth site like this has to get slowed down by some attack protection system. Could it be set up so that the back end can be accessed from two different DDoS blocking systems, one being Cloudflare, and the other being another server that has a more customized DDoS detection and blocking? Most DDoS attacks are fairly automated with little involvement from the attackers. For example, renaming a directory where the scripts are stored would make all access in to HTTP 404 not found errors which consume very little CPU. Also, making a simple script that detects the DDoS attack pattern and adds those IP addresses to a block list is fairly easy to do. The attackers then have to modify the attack, and the site owner spends a few minutes modifying the mitigation. Often the attackers aren't motivated enough though.

I get it after hitting the Proceed To Preview Stage button.
Maybe you are behind Carrier Grade NAT (where your IP address is shared with other customers) and someone on your ISP was involved in the attack on ebid?

No idea. Such things are beyond my knowledge. You probably meant it as a rhetorical question.

Though, as to get to that point I have to...

    1. Possess an eBid account
    2. Be registered as a seller
    3. Be logged in
    4. Have filled in a valid listing form

...it seems a bit of an odd place to be interrupted for a bot check.

Plus, if after previewing I go back for further editing of the listing I get the bot check again when I preview.

I have just listed a batch of stamps. The process was exactly as it used to be. No captcha, no bot check, no browser check. As the problem seems to affect some users and not others, I wonder whether the differences are due to different operating systems, different browsers or different individual computer setups.

I did a virus scan late last night, just listed a item and had to do a captcha ( bikes this time)
may be relevant maybe not 2 days before the attack on ebid, bt was down for 2 days, my daughter eventually had to remove firefox and take my laptop back to day one before i could get back on!
Is there anything i can do to get rid of the captcha, bearing in mind im not technical.
