You gave me a bit of a moment with this post. Mom was a knitter. Right before she passed she asked me to find a pattern on the internet so that she could start making these little hats for babies to donate to the hospital. She only made one and then she broke her hip. A month later she was gone. Mom was almost 92 when she passed. Sharp mind but her bones and heart gave out of her. I had another aunt who made tons of toques and mitts to give to the homeless shelters in Edmonton. That was her project in her later years. Another aunt who lived to be 90. May they both rest in peace. Both fine and kind women.

    And another one via Facebook:

We are running very low on our stocks of knitted teddies and blankets. We like to give them out to new babies on the unit, and often it will be their first teddy and a special keepsake!
Blankets are ideally knitted with no holes, around 60 x 60cm (25 x 25 inches), in a variety of colours and patterns. White and cream tend to go very quickly, but any colours gladly received! Knitted teddies can be in any colour, with no beads or buttons please.
Donations can be dropped off at the SSNAP office, or posted to us

(SSNAP, Level 2, Women's Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford OX3 9DU)

If you'd like a poster to put up at your local school, church or craft group please get in touch. Thank you so much, we really appreciate your help!

    Another one from Facebook:

Knitters needed: Traffic light hat appeal at DBTH. https://www.dbth.nhs.uk/news/knitter...ppeal-at-dbth/

Worn by our new-born tots, these knitted garments in green, orange and red are incredibly important, with each signalling what level of care is required for each infant at a glance.

These hats are used within the first 24 hours of the baby’s life and are then taken home with them as a keepsake.

If you wish to put your knitting skills to use, your help is much appreciated! Send your hats to:

Communications Department, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Armthorpe Road Doncaster South Yorkshire DN2 5LT.

These hats will be distributed amongst our units in both Doncaster and Worksop.

The pattern: We accept green, orange/yellow and red.

Small: Using 4mm needles cast on 50 stitches. Work in K2, P2 RIB for 28 rows.

K2TOG along row. If you don’t have enough stitches K1.
P2TOG along row. If you don’t have enough stitches P1.
Break wool and thread through stitches and pull tights.
    Over sew seam.

Medium: Work as small hat but 60 stitches and 32 rows.

Large: Work as small hat but 70 stitches and 36 rows.

A huge thank you to Lynne Beckett for sharing this pattern – Preemies UK, all rights reserved.

I've been knitting these - I've used up all my baby yarn and my rules are that I must use the yarn I have until I have manageable amounts! So far I've donated them for sale to Cats Protection, Empower the Gambia, Bristol Royal Infirmary and Great Western Hospital Swindon. At the rate of two per day (more if I can't sleep), I am on course to run out of red and, later, green yarn well before Christmas.Name: IMG_2987.jpg

    Calling all knitters and craftivists!

End Hunger UK will be sending MPs knitted/crocheted food at the end of January, asking them to pledge to end hunger and poverty in their constituency. If they pledge, they will be tweeting the craftwork on their social media.

If you want to use your knitting or crocheting skills to join #EndHungerUK in the fight against food poverty, find free patterns and more info at http://endhungeruk.org/weekofaction2019/knitfood
