Thread: Pay Pal Increasing Fees

  1. #1

    Default Pay Pal Increasing Fees

According to an article from eCommercebytes http://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog...486415898.html

"PayPal is raising certain fees at the end of March, making it more costly to sell to buyers located outside of the country, as we reported in the most recent issue of EcommerceBytes 411."

Here's the link to PayPal describing the actual changes: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mp...ll?locale.x=en

    I also read

We are adding a non-discouragement clause for sellers that provides:
    • In representations to your customers or in public communications, you agree not to mischaracterize PayPal as a payment method. At all of your points of sale (in whatever form), you agree not to try to dissuade or inhibit your customers from using PayPal; and, if you enable your customers to pay you with PayPal, you agree to treat PayPal’s payment mark at least at par with other payment methods offered.

That is going to be difficult to do!

OH MY GOSH!!! I suppose that these forums are "public communications" so I'd better not say how I really feel about them, but seriously? who would offer it as a payment option and then discourage a buyer from using it?? However, I have figured out why they need to raise their rates - it's to pay the people who come up with this ridiculous stuff!!

If you are interested in using other online payment options, here is something to consider:

I think these are all for US sellers.

I checked a couple of these out and they appear to be more for "in person" sales, as they send you a device to connect to your cell phone to swipe the card through - would be great for flea markets, etc. which I can't do any more. In fact, I don't even use a cell phone, as I would have to drive 2.5 miles to the top of the hill to get a signal - lol!

Also, Pay Pal accepts credit cards from non-members as long as they have a valid e-mail address, so I do have payment by credit card as an option already. I just have a "bad taste in my mouth" over a SNAD refund when it was the buyer who damaged the item when opening it and they would not allow me to send proof of the damage done - just refunded the buyer. I will say they have gotten better since then, as they will allow you to send photos now as evidence.

And since they now allow a buyer to request a refund for up to 180 days after the purchase and eBid only keeps your records for 75 days, I have to take the extra step of taking a screen shot of any sales to keep on file until the 180 days have passed along with the photos taken of the item, especially clothing - which a buyer can wear for months and then return, claiming SNAD when they are the ones who tore or stained the item.

Having done a search on a well known search engine, it seems that there are unfortunately no other viable UK options. The only contenders are: Skrill (not widely used), Stripe (very geekish) or Nochex (exorbitantly expensive as the want a £50 up-front payment or an annual payment for non-use). It is hardly the customer's fault if their systems are so poorly promoted that very few people have heard of them.

Or just an online payment into your bank account. Though that would probably only be of interest for buyers who already bought from you and trust you. No fees though.
