    Default UTF8 for symbols

I have had problems uploading spreadsheets files when they contain exported data from Ebid.

It is when I use uncommon symbols such as half, quarter, Euro.

Now I know the secret - File Origin.

Excel has a File Origin default of MS DOS PC8

Good pointer Bill, will get the instructions updated with this info.

All our data files are exported in the UTF8 format and it can be a problem for some of the stranger text characters if these are opened in Excel in a different format.

There is also now a SAVE AS option named "Unicode Text (.txt)" in Excel. This is our preferred method for saving data files from Excel from now on. It saves in tab delimited foramt but with UTF8 character encoding also which fits the bill nicely.

OK, my memory is not what it was, and I have been forgetting to import text files, such as Ebid exports, into Excel spreadsheets as UTF-8 files.
The default is now Windows (ANSI) which corrupts yen, umlaut, and other symbols into gibberish.
Sorry I wasted support time asking the question. Again.

Now I am looking at how to change the default file origin on Excel to UTF-8. Any tips?

Export from Ebid, and updating things in a spreadsheet is much easier for me than using the bulk edit because there are more nuanced facilities for search and replace in Excel.
