Thread: Uploading new photos... checkboxes

  1. #1

    Default Uploading new photos... checkboxes

My most usual workflow is that I list a new item by starting to create the listing, uploading pictures for it, etc etc.

When I do this I then have to check the checkboxes for those recently uploaded pics and click Select. It would be convenient if those checkboxes were already populated with ticks.

Admittedly it's a small matter, but anything that makes the process smoother helps users feel positive. Or is it likely that some would not want those checkboxes ticked? Perhaps there are scenarios I've not considered?

    You need to consider this.

You upload pics for one listing at a time where having the tick boxes checked won't be a problem. But, a problem would arise if a seller uploaded pics, say in various colours, for a listing they wanted to use to 'list similar'.

So, until a drop down box is provided for sellers on a listing form with the various sizes/colours etc., this would be a problem for some members.

That's hypothetical. But in case such a possibility is ever implemented, go to a site that already allows listings with sizes/colours etc and check how their photo upload works. For example a site that's 10 times bigger than this one.

Meanwhile, such sellers would either simply upload the photos appropriate for each listing, or untick the ones they'd just uploaded that weren't the matching ones.

Gill, what happened to your avatar? It changed to the nice oak tree, but now it's reverted to purple ebid staffer!

    Hi John,

Do you mean once the picture upload is complete the "just uploaded" pictures are automatically selected?

We could do this for pictures uploaded via the gallery overlay that sits above the listing form.

    Thx,

I agree this can be done via gallery - but then what is the point as uploading pics to gallery is a job in itself and not done while creating a listing.

Am I missing the point here?

Back to me old self again. I'm an unpaid staffer John as I like to help wherever possible.

While that sounds like a good idea, for me it's not as I upload pics for 6 different, yet similar listings (3 pics per listing) at a time (selling comics, etc...).
If the boxes were already checked, then i'd have to uncheck 15 boxes just to use 3 pics.

It very definitely would not work for me. I prepare batches of stamps for listing by batch scanning. I can download 100 or more pictures at a time. I would have to uncheck over a hundred at a time.

I agree. I usually create new listings in batches, and upload all the pictures first. Then I scroll down the page and select only the ones I want for each item. Since there are never more than five pics per listing, that seems easier than unticking all the others.
