Here's a very interesting vid re the Gongora galeta above!
see how the bucket shaped flower flings the wasp onto its back via the hinged lip, thus picking up pollen - then they move on to the next bloom!

PS. here is a very nice specimen, which makes mine look positively sick!

OLD - what happened to all your pictures?????????

Crushing and sniffing ants IS a "boy" thing! LOL!! Down here they call them "**** ants" and living by the woods I get them in the house frequently during the summer. I set out the little bait tubes and watch them as they drink, delighted with the fact that they are going to go back and feed the nest and KILL THEM ALL OFF!!!

I DO wish people would hold still when they are videoing! I got a little dizzy while swirling around the big pot - lol! The green wasps are cute (for being a wasp) and I did see them "getting flipped off" - that was cool!

Pix look all OK at this end Shesa!

Yes it's a boy thing, like carrying a frog in your pocket, catching a jar full of tadpoles, burning insects with a magnifying glass & pulling the wings off flies! All good fun!

Which reminds me - "What do you call a fly with no wings"? - "A walk"

    Spring is early????
Just outside my front door and below my kitchen window I noticed these......

i assume that they are small daffodils, I haven't planted them and I didn't notice them last year.
I am not a gardener so I don't understand, can they just lay dormant and choose to grow when they feel like?

Hey Graham - what I know about daffodils could be written on the head of a pin in thick texta!
Perhaps the bulbs can lay dormant till favourable conditions arise? OR they self seeded & have now germinated?
Someone else my fill us in!

BTW - here is the first flowering of the council freebie plant I got back at post #178 & #189
It is Callistemon 'Wilderness White' (common name Bottlebrush) I have been pouring the water & fertilizer into it, especially now during our hot weather.
It has rewarded me with some flowers & I'm hoping that in future it will help to attract bees, birds & butterflies.

Yes Meebs, that's exactly how they look - remember the days when we all had that worn out bottle brush hanging up in the kitchen, ready to clean out the empty glass milk bottle!
Don't do that any more, thanks to plastic & cardboard cartons!

The flowers on these things are bird & bee magnets & I can't wait till that happens. More pretty parrot pix then hopefully

OLD - the pictures are back - must have been a "glitch" that day.

Boy things - having grown up with numerous uncles and brothers, I know about those "boy things" too! In fact, I was the one to pass that "knowledge" down to my own boys and I still enjoy going to the creek and taking the pinchers off crawdads - revenge for all the times I got pinched when I worked the craw tanks at the bait & tackle shop my parents owned. LOL!!!

The bottlebrush looks great for this being it's first year!!! How is the red one coming along that you got? Can't remember it's proper name.

POSCAR - my daffodils are blooming now too - just brought in a bunch to put in a vase. Forsythia is blooming now too - about a month early for both! Daffodils can crop up from seed blown in. I had so many wild ones that I dug up the bulbs and sold them on the bay - 10 for $5 and sold about $250 worth. I also have tons of moss growing in the woods and people were paying up to $30 for a 6" x 6" square!! That takes "living off the land" to a whole new level - lol!!

TONY - love your bush!! I don't recall having ever seen one like that - how long do the white tassels stay on?
