I've been told that a poppy with a leaf should have the leaf pointed to 11 o'clock to show the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 o'clock. Anyone else heard of this?

Someone's made that one up, surely? I've been around Remembrance Sunday all my life (father & husband both soldiers) and I've never heard that one.

I've never heard that one either. The poppy that we wear (Canadian Legion) doesn't have a leaf anyway. A veteran once told me to wear the poppy on the left side over the heart (I was wearing it on the other side).

I suspect it's a "new tradition" - they do keep inventing them. When I was young there was no leaf on a standard poppy.
Apparently Scottish poppies have four curled petals and no leaf, the rest of the UK have poppies with two petals and a leaf.
Though my memory from when young is poppies with four petals (2 x 2) and a leaf.
Most poppies are machine made nowadays anyway. The days of old disabled ex-soldiers making them are long gone. Only things like the wreath the Queen and other VIPs lay are hand made.
