Default One for the Night Owls

Have been running a program called f.lux the last few weeks which automagically 'tones down' the monitor at night - reducing the blue light (which is reported to prevent you then sleeping properly).

I don't know about the better sleep part but it definitely is easier on the eyes.

It's free, it's by the same bloke that created Picasa (before Google bought him out), and available here if you are interested.

Marked in Lumens not K, so looked the type up and they seem to range from 3200K - 3500K

Unfortunately it depends on which tube you have bought. It can lie anywhere between about 4000 and 7000 degrees Kelvin, daylight being about 6000. The point of reducing blue is to lower the colour temperature from the daylight position.

I just set it to give a display I was comfortable with. If I set it to Incandescent to match my lighting it was too red for my taste.

One issue I have found with it is that if you power off at night it doesn't automatically switch to daylight display when you boot the next day; you have to click the icon in the system tray.
