Although California has very high levels of affluence, it also has the highest levels of poverty in the USA as measured by official definitions of poverty.

There will be some correlation between the two depending upon the level of labour required in various industries there – for somebody to get very rich, there will be the human capital resources of other people who have helped them to get rich.

Life is too short to read or listen to the whole article and ads.....but going by the headline, it is fairly misleading.

California has limited fresh water. It gets a lot of its water from other states like Colorado. The state has one of the highest agicultural uses of water, due to the size of California, and it's high amount of farming due to the favorable weather. Grapes, fruits of all kinds, nuts and many many veg crops are grown there, all requiring a lot of water. The population of the state is also growing.

Of course there are rich people there........many computer and tech industries are there, as well as Hollywood, and Disneyland. Of course there are poor people there.......there are few places that don't have people who are ;less well off than most. And I suspect they congregate in warmer climates, when possible. Also there are a lot of immigrant (legal and not) from Mexico, which adds to the agricultural labor force and lower paid workers.
I'm sure lawn watering and golf courses contribute to water useage, but suspect it is not the cause of the drouth.

Agreed. And increased agricultural consumption as there are ever-increasing mouths to feed. As well as lawns.
