As long as you state in the title and description what charity your action is for - does anything else really matter?

This is the most sensible idea yet. If the winner doesn't want to choose the next charity they can always offer it to someone else.

Just for my curiosity, as this was before my time with YDC, and question not directed at Books, if it worked so well, why was it changed?

Was it? is there a rule to allow for the winner not wanting to nominate a charity?

What happened was that bykimbo thought she had won too often so she asked others to suggest charities and she chose from them (mine! African Children's Fund)

I throw up my hands in despair, reading this thread! Talk about racehorses and camels!

After last YDC, I thought it time i became a little more involved, and began reading back to understand the history and ethos of this competition. (for it has always been a competition).

Please refer to Yorkie's post in 2010 when you became coordinator, raindropsies. He wrote this in your support. Perhaps you missed it:

    http://www.ebid.net/forums/showthrea...history+of+YDC

If anything is likely to put off prospective new participants in YDC, it is mayhem like this thread and is why Yorkie says there that any issue should be taken to the coordinator by PM before a thread be started.

I really have serious misgivings now about bothering to take part. I think i'll start badgering the politicians about who decided we should use a cross rather than a tick or the word "yes" to select our MP's. I was certainly never asked about this...

Sorry, it's me not reading things properly or too quickly and misunderstanding posts...D'oh.

I thought it was Nutty's suggestion of "Why not just say any listing starting at 99p or under ( and $ equivalent) is automatically entered into the competition and likewise, any listing starting at £1 ( $ equivalent) is not." that was getting the comments including that it had worked perfectly well...I'll go back to sleep now

I'm sorry you feel that way Cambrensis, I hope you change your mind.
I've been participating in the YDC auctions since I became active on eBid last May. This is what has been achieved by all the YDC participants in that time.

    Other charities
    190th girl guides Liverpool - £148.50
    Acorns Childrens Hospice - £20.00
    Alzheimers society - £95.00
    B.B.Is - $25.00
    Canadian Cancer Charity - C$ 24 = £13.20 $50.00

    Redwings Horse Sanctuary - £10.00
    RSPB - £2.00

By the end of YDC 131 YDC will have contributed towards life-saving Defibrillators in 3 schools, that could at some point in the future save a childs' life, that, I think is a brilliant achievement for everyone involved, along with all the other charities that have had their funds boosted.
