And they [Shropshire Health Authority] forgetting about Mid Wales as usual, want to close A&E at Shrewsbury RSH and move it all to Telford - over 1 1/2 hours travel from here ! As you can see, there is no general hospital in Mid-Wales, only cottage hospitals.

Oh dear, it sounds like your area is bad too Annie.

Do all your Schools have Defibrillators? I know the School you nominated last time turned out to have a defib but what about your local Primary?

Even if your School's mileage is not as great as Penni's you can still nominate. In the event that the Winning School fails for whatever reason (it isn't always straightforward to place a defib) it would be great to have more nominations to fall back on.

The current 2nd nomination is local to me (& Sucadot) - we are considering withdrawing this nomination as I feel that Janet's Trust should take this one on board separately and not benefit from a YDC community effort for a Defibrillator inside my own area.

The nomination has been withdrawn for the reasons stated above. Cheaver will contact the school directly in the next few days.

As Swindon has a well-placed new hospital, I won't be nominating any school near me. Also my (tiny) town has a defibrillator accessible to the public which is very close to the school - indeed, it is close to everything - nothing in Highworth is more than 20 minutes walk from anything else!

It's great when defibs are placed for general use. The Schools in my area have let it be known (local media) that theirs + their trained Staff are available, should they be needed, for the local Communities too.

    .

    Info:

In your community, where lengthy distances exist, it is not always possible to achieve arrival within the crucial 8-minute period.

Training of volunteers (First Responders) in defibrillation and other life-saving techniques may well be provided by your Local Ambulance Service.

Due to advances in medical technology, First Responders using new equipment can now carry out many life-saving interventions previously performed only by highly-trained individuals. These include easy-to-operate automatic external defibrillators.

In a Town such as Laurencekirk, for example, with a population of about 5000 & the single defib available is a mile away from the School (and housed in a Store) and the nearest Hospital is 42+ minutes up a very busy major road - this , to me, is the stuff of nightmares.

There may well be other nightmares we have yet to hear about, eg rural Wales or elsewhere.

This is what this thread is all about so can we please have some more nominations so that we can try to meet the absolute greatest need possible?
