NOMINATIONS END Midnight Thursday 5th March


We have just raised (via YDC) £500.00 to help fund a Defibrillator for a nominated School with the highest number of children in it. Now we are looking to do the same again but for a School which is furthest away from a Hospital. (moonwitch's supported idea.)

If you would like to nominate your local UK School to receive our fund-raising efforts at our next YDC event here on eBid (24th - 28th March 2015) then please read on!

Nomination criteria:

1) UK State Funded School (ages up to 17)

2) School must be local to you.
....You must check your School does not already have a Defibrillator (quick phonecall) before nominating.

3) eBid YDC participants only (Sellers, Buyers or Bidders)

You need to nominate as follows:

School name + Postcode. Nearest Hospital + Postcode. Number of miles between them.

The Government guidelines for Ambulance Response time is 10 minutes for heart attack patients. It may be that your School could be less miles than some but a greater journey time to get there.... feel free to mention this - it may be useful to know when selecting a Winning School.

The more nominations the better!

(it may be that the winning School decides they don't want one or there could be other reasons) so in that case I will move on to the next School on the list.)

I'm afraid my local school is almost walking distance from hospital, but am sure there are others who are not so lucky

I phoned to check and my nearest school without a defib is -

Manor Beach Primary School Cleveleys FY5 1EU.

According to google maps it's 5 miles (20 mins in traffic) away from -

Victoria Hospital Blackpool FY3 8NR.

All the schools in Bath are well catered for by the Royal United hospital. I would have nominated some schools in Cornwall which are miles away from hospitals and medical help but as they are not local to me I will leave it to others to nominate.

I've just phoned Laurencekirk Primary and they don't have a defib. the postcode is AB30 1EG

the distance by road is 30.891 miles but the journey time varies depending on the time of day as the A90 can have huge tailbacks.

Penni that's horrendous! The little ones (let alone the Staff) would have no chance. 44 minutes in current traffic! Oh deary me!


edit: Penni, I googled - it says there is an A&E at Montrose Royal Infirmary - a lot nearer than Aberdeen, 10.5 miles, 20 minutes... still horrendous but could you please re-check your nomination?

Sorted it Penni and I am totally gobsmacked.... no A&E Unit at Montrose (Google wrong or out of date)... as you are Grampian it's Aberdeen as you said..... oh deary me, I am sooooo shocked.

Yes, I have been blue lighted to ARI at 5.30 in the evening on a day a lorry crashed on the A90 and it took nearly 2 hours to get there. They had to pull in to a layby to do things to me which thankfully i dont remember.
We used to be able to use cross boundry services but that stopped in 2005. Even if the dog is ill the nearest PDSA is in Montrose but we have to go to Aberdeen instead.

We have a Minor Injuries Unit at local Surgery daytime, M-F only, and at Welshpool 24hr when staff available. Nearest A&E is at Shrewsbury at least an hour's drive if no holdups.

And they [Shropshire Health Authority] forgetting about Mid Wales as usual, want to close A&E at Shrewsbury RSH and move it all to Telford - over 1 1/2 hours travel from here ! As you can see, there is no general hospital in Mid-Wales, only cottage hospitals.

That is just awful! Guess I'm lucky our local hospital is within a few miles, then there's another they just built outside the city, plus the one on post which I could almost walk to. I wish everyone was so lucky.

Cheaver, it won't be an easy decision by any means, but it sounds like you have some excellent nominations so far. Still rooting around to see what I can uncover for the next YDC.
