I have found that I am spending more on buying the items i list than they actually raise and throw in postage on top of that I think I will be better just donating what I would have spent.
I will still take part by buying but I will give up on the listing.

IMO having to buy items for YDC is not the way to go unless one can afford to. It should be items one has either made themselves or items one already owns that are auctioned in YDC.

Like you I have always paid the postage and so have given all proceeds to the charities.

When I list for YDC in the future I will ensure that any postage is deducted because not all of us can afford to pay the postage as well and this does need reflecting in the rules at post #1. If postage isn't included in the proceeds then it does need stating on the listing.

Postage also needs to be at cost only.

If i have to buy the item it sort of defeats the object - I might as well donate the money directly. I, too, donate the postage but I can afford to and wouldn't wish to put anyone else under pressure to do so.

I really think we need to try to get our friends to at least look at the listings - I have persuaded a few to do so and some have actually bought stuff which helps.

I did originally charge the postage but I felt that this was hampering folk bidding so I changed it to £1 towards the postage but that just caused problems if the person wanted to send the money straight to the person whose charity it was.
I have been donated a new sealed Mrs Brown calander by a member of the Thursday Group but there is no point in listing it as it is longer tham the maximum small parcel length so i will have to give them it back
I have sent Books a donation and hope the rest of you get lots of bids

I'm just adding a couple of last minute listings, if I can't take decent photos indoors tonight, I'll take them outside tomorrow once I've had a couple of cups of coffee to wake me up.
