Well done and how exciting; we haven't had an animal charity for ages.

Are you sitting comfortably, then I'll begin...

Over 20 years ago, when I was young and fit, I used to walk about 3 and a half miles (each way), pushing my Silver Cross pram with Alex, my (then baby) son in to help at a jumble sale in aid of the Animal Welfare Trust, who held monthly jumble sales. As happens when you have children, other things took over, and I stopped going and lost touch with other volunteers.

Today, the Animal Welfare Trust is a branch of the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) and they still have monthly jumble sales (how many charities do you know that still hold jumble sales ) their most recent jumble sale was today, 2nd August, which I went to, the person I needed to talk to wasn't there, I'll leave it until Monday before I ring her (one of my jobs is voluntary, in a different sort of way, I don't always take phone calls over weekends).

The website showing animals waiting to be re-homed is like a shop window, there's lots more going on in the background. Such as the animals who maybe due to age, illness or temperament are not suitable (or not ready yet) to be re-homed, as the NAWT have a policy of not euthanising healthy animals they all have to be fed and cared for.

My nominated charity is my local (Essex - Thurrock) branch of NAWT
    Essex - Thurrock website http://www.nawt.org.uk/centres/essex-thurrock
    NAWT Facebook https://www.facebook.com/nawt.org.uk
    NAWT Twitter https://twitter.com/NAWT_updates
I don't understand how to use Twitter, it baffles me

As this is my first time winning the YDC and nominating a charity I will no doubt need some advice and help, I'll give yous a shout when I get stuck or am not sure of what I'm doing.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be at the heart of YDC 124 I'm looking forward to this adventure, and of course to raising funds for NAWT.
