    Default Google shopping search results

Hopefully I would like to find my postcards on Google shopping.

    I have found a problem.

I do a Google Shopping search for Berlin Postcard

Plenty of results, but my eBid shop is not in the list of shops in the left column.

I then select Postcards from the category list, again not listed among the sellers in the list on the left!

I then select Collectables category and finally my eBid shop and postcards are on view.

    Why is this?

Is it because postcards is not a main category on eBid?

I would also like to see my postcards in a Google Images search, but I can't see any of my eBid Berlin cards in there..

Why would eBid categories have anything to do with what Google Shopping displays?

I think GS takes it stores from the search results. It can only display so many store names on the page so those stores that contain the first results get displayed. On the search for 'Berlin Postcards' your store turns up on page 8 (at the time of my search) of the results when your first item appears for that search term.

Another example that supports Deano's crusade to get sellers to use good keywords in listings with the most relevant/important ones appearing first.

One thing that is a positive is if you use the Sort and go Price Low to High. Doing that gives you 21 out of the first 25, somebody looking for a cheap Berlin Postcard would almost certainly take a look at your listings.

I realise that getting the right keywords is important but deciding which to put first can be difficult.
Should it be subject first or country first?
I need to get in to my listings and sort out keyword order of importance.

As an example, should I go..

German Postcard of Berlin + subject (eg museum)
    Germany Berlin Postcard + subject
    Postcard Berlin Germany + subject
or put subject + the above

or do you think that any of the above would do maybe alternating in different listings?.

I hadn't noticed the ability to sort by price before, you learn something new each day here.

I think it comes down to what you think people are more likely to search for. The keyword 'postcard' is so generic I would tend to put it late in the title and the more specific keywords (e.g. Berlin, Germany) up front.

Look at the results that beat yours in a search and see if you can take any lessons from their titles.

The added complication with GS is that, even if your keywords and their order are perfect, if someone else is paying Google more per click-through than you (i.e. eBid) are then their items are going to appear before yours in results.

I've just done a GS default search for Berlin Postcard, I have items on page 19 !
All previous 18 pages are e Bay items.
Maybe I should put e Bay in my titles.

Time for some food now and maybe do some keyword tweaking later.

    Thanks for your input chaps.

Doing tests on generic keywords is not really worthwhile. And where postcards are concerned GS is only important in so far as: if you are thinking about the correct listing style for GS you will likely have good Google Organic (google.co.uk) exposure. Google organic exposure is where you get the vast majority of buyers for postcards. There are umpteen million Berlin postcards so the search result returned is hardly surprising.

Buyers will naturally search using more than just 2 keywords and they will use specific keywords alongside generic (otherwise they wouldn't be able to find anything in amongst millions of results), more often than not it will be a 3-6 keywords string.

Concentrate on where you have specifics. On your listings I will pick out one...

Postcard of Douglas C-47 Rosinenbomber Berlin Stamp & Postmark

The keywords in black are generic and the specifics are in red, relevant generic keywords are necessary and specific keywords are ultra dynamic. If someone wants a Postcard of a Douglas C-47 Rosinenbomber then they are pretty much going to type into a general Google search exactly what they want: Douglas C-47 Rosinenbomber Postcard. So 3 specific keywords and one generic.

And the current search results on Google.co.uk are:

    Douglas C-47 Rosinenbomber Postcard = No.1
    Douglas C47 Rosinenbomber Postcard = No.1
    C-47 Rosinenbomber Postcard = No.2

    That is remarkably good.
