I just thought I would share the fact that since I have pinned some stuff on Pinterest my views have shot up dramatically, and not just on the stuff I have pinned. It appears that some people are having a good old rummage. The views haven't turned to sales yet but I can always hope.

Good to know. Just started pinning myself, a few pins up and many more to go, nice to know it may well be worth it.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Does anyone recommend a good tutorial on how to effectively use Pinterest as a promotional tool? It seems like you need to know more about it than "just pinning."

I would be greatly interested in such a manual myself.

On another issue, I also appreciated reading Cancelcollector comments on "Why does eBid not have main stream advertising "
Nevertheless, I personally would like to pay a little for Ads, since I've practically given up on eBid. I'm a novice and do not know how to do it myself! So much so that, at this point, I cannot find where, in my descriptions, to enter relevant keywords! Any help on just this little issue would be greatly appreciated.

Keywords are essential in titles. eg your dangly whotsits..... you don't have earrings in the title or the word pierced. (as distinct from clip ons). If anyone was looking in the search box for pierced earrings they wouldn't find yours.

There was a thread about keywords.... I'll try to find it for you & post it here if I can.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I will revisit my few listing titles (an maybe add more) and look forward to receiving the thread about keywords, as I was not able to find anything under "keywords"

Your listing titles are basically your best "keyword exposure."

You have 80 characters for your title when you list-- use them wisely.

Think to yourself-- knowing what your "thing you're selling" is-- "What would I personally type into search if I was looking for this?" Educate yourself. If you're dealing with a particular market niche... learn the "jargon" of that market. Look at similar items, and how they are listed. Pay special attention to those that seem to have BIDS, and a high view count. What do they have in common? Yes it's "work," but it's not really a question of more work, just smarter work. That's how you figure out what your keywords (i.e. title) are... or should be. Then take those keywords and turn them into some minimally structured English (in 80 characters or less), and that's pretty much how you do it. Remember your title also becomes the URL of your individual items... and all those titles/URLs are indexed by Google.

Avoid "fluff" and "filler" words. 95% of people don't search on words like "charming" or "beautiful" or "really pretty." Those words might catch the eye of someone just reading a list of items for sale, but when you have a site like Ebid-- with millions of items-- far more people arrive at items via "search" than via "browse." Another mistake I see sellers make is putting "see description" in their listing title. That MIGHT be OK if you've said everything else you need to say... but NOBODY is going to sit down with Google and search for "see description." Just saying...

Always make sure your item's "hard data" is in your title. "Womens Size 8 brown Leather Boots." Now start adding the "extras." Brand name? Are they wide, narrow, anything else you know about them? Heel height? Any special attributes? Are they "new?" Used? Build your title, using "attributes" of your item. That's just an example... but it can be applied to pretty much any product from beanie babies to a chest of drawers.

Hope some of that is helpful!

On the subject of Pinterest, I don't know much about it myself, but I often browse for pictures of things I am interested in and pin them to one of my boards. If I'm notified by email that anyone has started following me, I always follow them back (even if only on some of their boards). They will receive pictures in their 'feed' that I have pinned, and they might click on them or pin them to their own boards - in which case all their followers will also see them. I've noticed a few views straight after I've pinned my listings, so I suppose it must be a good thing. I've no way of knowing whether any sales have been generated from Pinterest, but there must be a chance in there somewhere.
