Thread: What a farce!

  1. #1

    Default What a farce!

As words fail me on this one I will just copy and paste from the article.

"Is this the most farcical use of taxpayers' money ever: Ethiopian gets legal aid from UK - to sue us for giving aid to... Ethiopia"

"The farmer claims aid is funding a despotic one-party state in his country
Alleges regime is forcing thousands from their land using murder and rape
Prime Minister David Cameron says donations are a mark of compassion
If farmer is successful, Ministers might have to review overseas donations."

I suppose that if it gets them to think a bit more about where aid money goes some good might come out of it.

I'd be wary of believing anything the Mail publishes. As the saying goes, if they said the sun was up I'd look out of the window and check for myself.

This is even more important when the Mail appear to be the only ones carrying the story. If it can't be corroborated elsewhere it usually means that the Mail have made it up.

For example, they are now claiming that the recent case of animal to human TB transfer was from DOGS and not cats, contrary to all other news sources including interviews with the people involved.

You're right Damian, never trust the Mail - what a rag! It still surprises me that people actually read that tosh.

If you want an example of taxpayers money being wasted just look at the the £70 million "fine" for Network Rail. Who's actually paying it? Not the directors. It'll be fare paying customers and the good old taxpayers.

I am horrified that it remains possible for a newspaper to print outright lies. It ought to result in huge fines, journalists going to jail and, ultimately, the paper being closed down

More sources than the Mail (including the BBC) are reporting the story.

Personally I am sick of the amount of money sent overseas. Money poured for decades into Africa that achieves nothing, money sent to Pakistan when they have enough to fund a nuclear and space program, the waste goes on and on.

Time it was all stopped and the money spent on our own citizens.

The BBC story has a date of......6 September 2012

Any other article that I found on the net is attributed to the Daily Mail.
Looks like they had no other news so trawled through the archive.

I didn't notice the date on the BBC site, as you say - old story. Doesn't alter my views on overseas aid though.

Wasn't having a pop at you, but at the Mail for being rubbish.
