Do you have any idea as to the chosen charity/charities yet Vonz? I'm thinking ahead as I'll be fitting a kitchen during the week of YDC120 and would like to list a few things before then.

    Thank you.

    No, not yet.
I'm now waiting for a reply from Ron's family before an announcement can be made.

    Vonnie,
Maybe Ron's family don't want / cannot make this decision right now. They have other things to see to and to take care of.

Why not postpone this until Ron's family have had a little time to grieve, and they are comfortable and willing/eager to get something sorted out in eBids contribution to Ron's memory, from all his friends and associates here.

Perhaps if response is not forth coming from Ron's family, then an identified cause/charity that Ron supported in previous YDC events could be identified. Or if someone is aware of a cause/charity that Ron supported. It is possible that his family may not respond now. The option could also be included that if his family does respond, the recommended charity could receive the proceeds. I think doing planned event for YDC 120 would be good idea.

The response isn't forthcoming yet because I only posted my letter 2 days ago. I had left a respectable length of time before I bothered them.....knowing only too well the trauma that throws everyone off kilter!

We still have another 3 weeks to go before YDC120....so I will bide my time and wait to see if I get a reply.

copy of my letter if anyone is desperately interested:

Dear Family & Friends of Roland (Ron)

It was with deep sadness that Ron’s friends on ebid.net learned of his passing.

Ron was always a familiar figure on the ebid forums and a great supporter of our monthly charity auctions. To this end, we have decided to hold April’s charity auctions “In Memory of Ron” and we would dearly love it if his closest family and friends would nominate a charity for us to support. I’m sure Ron would approve of our gesture.....he was always in the thick of any bidding wars!

Apologies for intruding upon your grief at this sad time....but it would mean so much to us if we can remember Ron by doing what we do best.....raising lots of money for charity!

    With heartfelt thanks

That's a lovely letter Vonz very well done.
It might take a while to get a reply anyway not just because they are busy but depending on how often they are picking up his post or if they are having it redelivered.

That is a lovely letter Vonz. Maybe if they don't reply we could just donate the money to his family. Bereavement is always an expensive time and maybe the money could help in some small way.
When I was young it was a tradition where I grew up for a neighbour to organise a "lift". Money was donated by neighbours who could give a little to help out the family of the deceased.
Most people nowadays do have insurance but I'm sure it was done irrispective of whether they had or not. This was a way of showing our respect, we didnt send flowers or anything just anonomous donations

Well folks....only 4 days to go before the YDC announcement....and I haven't had any word from Ron's family with regard to a nominated charity.

So, does anyone know if Ron had a favourite charity or good cause?

    .

I wonder if it might be worthwhile asking this on Ron's Fantasy Football thread? Maybe somebody there might know?
