Default Handmade category - in the wrong place

    OK, I'll try again.

Even if you are not going to make handmade a top level category, could you please consider, seriously, that it is in the wrong place?

"Everything else" would, in my opinion, be a better place for it.

Assuming that eBid are not going to make handmade a top level category, where would others like to see it?

eBid would have an advantage over FeePay if it was a top level category., over there it's not a top cat.
A chance to get one step ahead.

I agree with Poscar and Madelaine.

I think it should be a top category..............etsy's success shows that handcrafted items are booming, and should be highly visible. Handmade/handcrafted are NOT JUST CRAFTS. They can be fine art. I have made sterling silver jewelry......not just stringing beads, but working the silver, using a blow torch, cutting, polishing, setting stones.......art. And what about hand made wrought iron?? ...or Hand made felted works of art...........or hand made purses. No one would look for purses in crafts.

    Do I digress?
I would hate to see it relegated to Everything Else, because I doubt that many people would think to look there. I wouldn't bother looking in Everything Else for something that whole websites have been built upon.....it makes it seem like an afterthought.

But eBid are very firm on the subject - they closed your thread, Penni.

Where should it go if they won't make it top level?

Would you kind folk consider my items handmade ? I do.
No carvings or paintings, or such, however I carefully paint and wrap my fishing lures so that they
    are much neater than others.
High speed lathes are used to fine cut, shape and finish before painting on our balsa products.
Yes I have developed processes to do all of this in quantities, however I still consider them all hand made.
    Just an inquisitive question.

Those are handmade - absolutely - but I would not list them under handmade but where a prospective buyer would look under fishing tackle.

However, I would make it clear that these were not mass produced!

I sell my handmade items on Etsy and closed the store I had for them here because they weren't found.

If Ebid doesn't want to make handmade a top category okay, but it makes a difference in the amount of listings here for me.

Have they ever given a reason for not wanting to make it a top cat?

I think that the reorganisation/recoding required for a new top level category is large.

There is no other obvious reason why Postcards should not be removed from other collectables - the huge number of postcards dominate the cat and scrolling through the subcats irritates non-postcard sellers so technical reasons would seem to be the only valid reason for that and would seem to be the reason for the handmade decision.

However, the reason I started this thread was to propose another solution and no-one likes mine so what alternatives are there?
