    Default ebid ideas

A growing website attracts loads of new customers. Or so they say.

I would like to see ebid relaxing their rule on creating multiple listings for the same item. The policy could be relaxed for, say, 6 months to see if the increase in the number of listings had any effect on the number of people signing-up to ebid to buy and sell.

Ebay have the same policy with regards to multiple listings of the same item by the same seller, but in the interests of letting the world think they have more users than they do, they ignore their own policy.

So, we get big High Street sellers joining eBid and then all/most categories are flooded by the same listing. Is that what I am reading James?

Absolutely NOT. I used to sell on a collectible site which allowed duplicate listings. The result was that, for stamps, the site was flooded with over 100 of the same common stamp for one seller assisted by API. This swamped any normal seller.

I agree. In fact I wish eBid would enforce their 'No Duplicates' rule more. Too many people getting away with listing multiple duplicates. In some cases by using the bad advice (given by some on the forums) to modify the listing title slightly to evade the listings being deleted as duplicates.

No point reporting them when you do find them. Admin either ignores the report totally or, on rare occasions, deletes the listing the report is filed against but leaves all the other duplicates in place.

    I absolutely agree. ABSOLUTELY NOT!

One of the reasons we left the Bay is that we weren't selling anything anymore. The massive sellers are allowed to list their items in any quantity they choose, and they get top billing, so our collectibles were usually found on page 30 or so.

    The idea has some merit.

I remember soon after I joined ebid that it and the othe two major alts (imho) were all on about 2 million listings. Then ebid got that Snazl book- seller and ebid soon shot up to 6 million listings and left the others in the dirt.
Everyone was ecstatic. "We are going to reach 7 by Xmas or 10 million."

I just wish that some of us could come up with other more koscher means of getting a big listings injection.

In this Day and age of online auctions.. I just can not believe the lack of knowledge in many postings... any smart seller can see that and thus stay away from this site. Better to close the forums here.
Better posts were posted back in 2000 in/on auction forums(when sellers cared and times were very much different).
Seems it has gone backwards in the last 14 Years.

    In 2000?
    You only joined in 2008!
How can ebid have gone backwards in the last 14 years?
It only started 14 years ago!

Perhaps the sensible people who cared about auctions have moved on, and the world is dominated by people who want to buy online - what they need NOW.?

no the idea has no merit at all

multiple listings of the same item will see ebid being accused of total listing number manipulation we have been accused of this before,

so youd like to see a big listing injection try listing a few more items than 3 , sales encourage sales

its all very well you telling people what to do why dont you lead by example open a store, populate it, call it purple and show us what you can do
