Would soywax justify a separate cat? Might the words not just go into each title? What would be the other cats below candles? and wouldn't you need a Candle category?

This 2nd level subcategory would be budged up to the top level, so this is the base to start from, they can be moved, merged etc to fit.

I've just looked through the 12,285 cats.

Are your suggestions including custom made (which is already available in Baby/Toddlers & infants as custom & handmade), hand-crafted, hand-spun, hand-painted and have you considered the members already listing in the cats available which they may be happy with?

Has anyone done a Google adwords on these words?

I truly like the idea of a top level cat of Handmade but it does need some hard work and brain-storming (IMO) before it can be implemented.

I agree it will need some work but i do think it can only benefit ebid.

When you search for an item, you think of the item first, and then any distinguishing characteristics...Do people really think, "I want an X, but I only want one made by hand." ? Surely the thought sequence would be, "I want/need an X. What is available in the colour or size that I need?".

Exactly the point I was making with my "noun first then the adjective" post earlier! Thank heavens for sanity!

Go into your nearest supermarket and you will find potato crisps (chips in the US) which , very peculiarly, are "cooked by hand" (it may be baked/roasted), whatever the devil that is supposed to mean!

The simplest and clearest is the order of the day - always!

a) what you want
b) the limitations you wish to place...colour/size/hand made, etc.

So far we have been offered hand made and handmade - how about "made by hand" ; the permutations are increasing. Why not "Hand made in Scotland/Wales/England...or more likely in Bangladesh!

Perhaps there should be top categories for a "smoke free" or "pet free" or, better still a "Nut free" home"!

I object to your "more likely in Bangladesh". Of the almost 5000 handmade items, 2000 are mine. Made by me, by hand, in Scotland. We are not all scam artists.

The problem with doing it the way you suggest is that if someone is doing a search that is by catagory they will never find handmade as it is hidden away in the crafts section
