I found ebid by searching for alternative auction sites. Even though the BIN option seems to be what many buyers prefer now, I still think of online selling sites as auction sites. A person finds it easily via a web search. Plus, I don't believe that .net or .com matters one bit either. I wouldn't type out the URL. I would just search for eBid.

To me, this idea makes no sense and I think that time and money could be better spent elsewhere.
    Ditto this.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Nobody did, so they had to change it back to Royal Mail and the Post Office.

And how many millions did it cost us in increased postal fees to replace the lost income that was spent on a re-branding that wasn't needed.

BT is another one that went through a phase of repeated rebranding. They just couldn't seem to make up their minds as to what to call themselves, what their logo was, and what colour their vehicle fleet was to be painted. It must have cost an absolute fortune for no gain.

Here is my repose to you comments.

Ebid is probably not a good name for ebid as it is now.

    It may have been once.

If the boys were starting today do you think they would choose ebid.

Ebid conjures up bidding on the internet.

Most sales are made by Fixed price.

If in the future the boys wanted to expand into other activities eg car sales, real estate, jobs, ebid would not suit any of those activities

No - change the name now I say.

As I said it will be easy to do, and it won't cost ebid much at all. Its an online business, they don't have offices to repaint, stationary to redo.

(One thing I had not thought of was the ebid T-shirts and and ebid tape you might have bought.)

You will still have the T shirts to wear and can still use the tape.

Yes the ebid logo is good (for the name ebid and an auction site) but its not an auction site. (it does not even show bids!)

A new name also says - Hey were are moving ahead, and changing our business and it gives some opportunity for media reports etc.

Every major insurance company in New Zealand changed its name from a 19th century 3 or 4 word name to a new one word name that has nothing to do with insurance. (I don't think many of their customers left them because they did not like the new name)

I did not mean to spend much time on the ebid.com situation, we all know the story there.

But a new name - eg Sparkle or Purple and the ability to say or write Sparkle.com or Purple.com would be a great advantage to attracting new buyers and sellers.

    So have another think ?

Read your posts, but wonder at the logic:
Where is the evidence for the sweeping statements you make ( WHY isn't eBid a good name?)
Do you know that most sales are made by Fixed Price? I've had several bidders.

Why does a new name say - "Hey were are moving ahead, and changing our business and it gives some opportunity for media reports etc."
It also might mean " Hey, we are stuck here and can't get any business, and the creditors are after us, so we've changed the name. We're hoping nobody notices that we're still the same old crew, and we can go on for a bit longer".

It used to be regarded as a sign of failure when businesses changed their names (often), because it showed that there was no goodwill, and was usually a smokescreen.

The secret of success in any business - which is what people here seem to be looking for, and pinning their hopes on small or cosmetic changes that will transform their lives, and those of their families, - is that there is no secret. It comes down to hard work, ingenuity, an eye for opportunity, energy, an open mind, and just a little luck.

Posts like this diminish any positives for eBid.net
Just absolutely awful and basically annoying.
