Android eBid app :)

The android app no longer requires access to our contacts, but can anyone tell me why it still needs to access our microphone & can turn it on at anytime without alerting us.
That still has me not wanting to install the app.

Ok I sent a message to support inquiring about the permission to access the mic & the reply I got made sense. So now I will download & install it

The request for permission is linked to the camera permissions for Android.

I've just downloaded it to my 'phone so that I may play too. At first glance I don't think you need worry too much about permissions. Although in the list it speaks of position access, it's just asked me what country I'm in!

I'll check on an android tablet later, as I'm in the middle of changing one over to Ubuntu...or into a doorstop, whichever comes first!

Does that make sense? Does every app that needs camera permissions require mic permissions also? If so, that sounds remarkably stupid of the Android designers and very surprising.

emmm thats wrong, You don't need to ask permission to use mic if all you need is the camera capture . http://developer.android.com/referen...ermission.html

I can see why you would ask for mic permissions if you were capturing audio along with video but can't see why its required for just pictures.

Perhaps its required in iOS apps, i take it ebid are cross developing with something like http://qt-project.org/ which could also be why.

Hmmm I see both your points John & BrunWulf, guess i will still hold off on the app til the mic permission is removed.
