...is the UK sinking, now it sounds as if it wants to slide into the sea. Just how much has been eroded underground?

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake has been registered centred three miles under the Bristol Channel.
A spokesman said: "It looks like there was an earthquake originating in north Devon at 13:21 so we are just analysing it."
The tremor is thought to have occurred at a depth of three miles (5km) and lasted several seconds.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) said residents reported their houses rocking and others described the quake as like a "heavy truck going up the road".
It was felt in areas including Dartmoor, Bristol, Taunton, Swansea, Llanelli, Barnstable and Gloucester, according to the BGS.

Didn't notice anything here in Bath which is surprising as there was one near Birmingham quite a few years ago and that shook our furniture here !
I remember there was one in Cornwall when I was a child and that was strong enough to lift the parquet flooring in a local school hall.

I'm still of the firm opinion that with all the mining, tunnel digging, oil drilling ...and now fracking........
mother nature will eventually come back and bite us all on the bum!

The UK is still recovering from the ice age.
That means , that while the North of Britain rises due to the enormous weight of ice lifted from it.; this has the effect that the (Ice free) south of Britain will sink due to the rising of the North and equilibrium being restored.

So if Scotland wants independence... all they have to do is wait for nature to grant it to them.

I think the PM would have been more use in Westminster banging heads together. Not to have put in an appearance at the scene would have seen him crucified though.

Well if they can wait long enough the opposition will be drowned out (literally) and the Scots will have the high ground! (Again literally)

I felt a single, very mild shake/thud in Torquay. It felt almost like someone jumping off a chair in the next room. It was only hours later that I found out it was an earthquake. My other half was right next to me and she didn't even notice it.
