yes i would do it. Yes there are other sites that focus on handmade and yes ebay do list handmade under crafts but is that any reason to deny it here. I'm slowly taking my items out of crafts and putting them in with normal items ie hand knits in the baby or ladies clothing catagories and cards under occasions etc.
I agree with you about the vintage patterns, i also have a few that i would regard as collectables.

I'd rather not split my patterns into patterns & collectables - I put Vintage into the title of any I think may be collectable (or 1970s or 1960s)

Well maybe the same should be applied to handmade, i like to buy 1940's patterns but if sellers dont put 1940's in the title then i have to wade through all the rest and there's quite a lot of us selling knitting patterns.

i have lots of the p&b vintage silver patterns but i wouldnt know how to date them. There is nothing on them to indicate a date so i feel safer leaving it off in case i get it wrong as upset someone

Most of the silver p&b patterns fall into the 1950's/60's

Moving Handmade should not be a major task if the whole subcategory is moved to a different top level category. This could be done in such a way as to automatically move the existing items.

    Let's get this into perspective.

The OP asked for 'handmade' as a top level category so please stop bringing in the knitting patterns. The patterns aren't handmade - the garments are.

Having a top level category of handmade is very important IMO because there are many members that make handmade items - including myself. Keeping handmade under 'Crafts and Sewing' is useless.

But having a top level category of Handmade with the numerous sub cats would help eBid sellers as well as buyers.

After all, eBid does need buyers, Yes?

    I agree with you, Madelaine.
Crafts are supplies with which people make items.

Hand crafted items are already made.......

....I wouldn't ever think of looking for them in crafts, as they are not limited to çrafty' types of items. Hand made could be costume jewelry or fine jewelry, clothing, artwork, metal work.........black smithing type, walking sticks and canes, hand=carved spectacle frames, or my almost world famous chutney!

Good idea but what about handmade items that are not in the handmade sub cats? who will search and relocate them? For example seller hakki and her family in a drawstring bag are they handmade? if they are it doesnt say so in the title so how will they be moved to the handmade cat? There are numerous such auctions.

Gill - The reason i brought up vintage knitting patterns was as an example yes the last post went off subject i'll agree with you there.

    What about

    CRAFTS
    Supplies and sub cats
    Handmade and sub cats?

Also what about a petition for your cause? each of us trying to locate sellers of hand made items and asking them to sign ?
