This forum should prove more active than the philately community group, which last had a posting in 2012!

I started collecting as a small boy with my Dad who had already amassed a decent collection. As a sailor in the Royal Navy he travelled around the world and always sent postcards with unusual stamps on them and brought back different stamps from all the countries he had visited. After a long break I have rekindled my interest and love the challenge of identifying different stamps. I am now selling off my duplicates, of which there are many hundreds, as well as rationalising my collection to specialise in just a few countries.
Its great fun and a good way to learn about geography and modern history.

Johnwash 1 "So I could certainly auction my stamps without feeling loss. But should I sell them individually? Or as single pages (one album is looseleaf, others would have to be ripped apart). Or as complete books, in which case how would the buyer judge worth? And is there enough traffic on eBid to ensure that my stamps would achieve market value?"

You would probably make more money selling them separately but it would take a lot more work, would take a lot longer, and there may be some stamps that you just cannot give away! Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks! Perhaps I should reserve the activity for when I've run out of other things to do.

I agree it's a good way to learn about geography, but (slipping on my pith helmet) it's a pity the revolting natives haven't left well alone. All those familiar African countries that had such nice animals on their stamps, all changed. Same in parts of the Balkans. I have trouble keeping up.

Very nice that there is a separate stamp forum area now... only makes sense, if you consider that "stamps" is the top level category with the third highest number of listings on Ebid.
