Bengo?



I seem to recall that his collar was magic and something happened when he rubbed the tag with his paw. I can't remember what though and the internet doesn't seem to help. Anyone remember?

I think he used to appear as part of Blue Peter (along with Bleep and Booster) - but I could, like HC, be misremembering.

I don't remember, but then before 1971 I was in a different country (could have been a different planet)

Don't remember Bengo myself, but found this http://www.turnipnet.com/whirligig/t...ther/bengo.htm that confirms it was Blue Peter in the late 50's and early 60's. Apparently there is a Wade Bengo the Boxer and a Pelham puppet. Googling Bengo the Boxer might give more results for you.

I did a reasonable search before asking, but could find no reference to the collar - apart from a book titled Bengo's Magic Collar. I remember it in the program, but not what it did.

I remember him only as a toy my dad gave me in the 60's...dad always called him Benji

Incidentally, some of the drawings of Bengo I came across on the internet featured him sans collar. Whether or not that is significant I do not know.

I have a vague recollection if seeing the odd drawing perhaps in the children's weekly (Candy?) in the mid 70s, but unfortunately i never saw it on TV.
