I won't ask WHY you collected 1000s of carrier bags 20 years ago, but here's a suggestion if you just want to get rid of them:

Charity shops never have enough. In Ipswich, there's the Animal Rescue and EACH in Felixstowe Road, and you can park outside both of them.
And the Red Cross, a bit further down.

    Problem solved!

Never occurred to me. I have some old ones in the loft, which I kept just because they were attractive or interesting. I think I'll dig them out and list them.

If you can sell them (even for a pittance) to a collector, I would think that preferable. Old bags won't disintegrate. So when they end up in landfill and in the Sargasso Sea and in dolphins' stomachs, they're not going to degrade for 100 years. Better for someone to be keeping them in a collection!

Encouraging thoughts and suggestions all - I actually started collecting them (secretly at first!) in the mid-1970s!

They are classic design examples of the day - and real social history pieces too, in my opinion... some from shops, companies and organisations that do not exist today... hmmmmmmmm... well, might just admire them for a bit longer...

When I get fed up listing postcards, I shall give them a go - on here, of course!
