I really don't understand Twitter, if I were to tweet something, Who gets to see it?

Is it only the people, who follow me, or the people I follow also?

What is this hashtag thing?

I have also heard that you can pay a small amount to have them send out your adverts, when they do a mass email to twitter followers, anyone know of this?.

Sorry for all the questions, but this twitter goes over my head, to some extent as does Facebook and Google+

Twitter is free and Hashtag's are very handy because they can end up going not just to followers but other people across the net and its easy to upload pic's to whatever your tweeting about
