Well done Cornishmaid. Can I ask a silly question - how do I register to take part in this charity event and what are the rules etc. I would like to start an auction for HME. What information is needed. Big Cheers and congratulations to you. Willothewisp

If you go to the first post of the above thread you will find the rules. We look forward to having you on board
Thank you willothewisp and a warm welcome. It is always lovely to have new people getting involved in the YDC and a good way to start getting some selling feedback while raising money for good causes.
There is always an announcement on the 20th of the month about the next YDC in the charity forum. In the mean time here are the rules.
YDC (Your Donation Counts) is the monthly round of charity auctions on eBid.net.
YDC has two aspects, the general fund-raising for good causes, and the competitive aspect where those who choose to can compete to win the right to select the next month's nominated charity.
The rules, therefore, also have two parts: the first part applies to all auctions which are to be part of YDC; the second part applies ONLY to those auctions which are to be considered part of the competition,
If joining in with the YDC monthly charity auctions you MUST follow the rules in part one. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning the competition, you are REQUIRED to also follow the rules in part two. If you do not wish to choose, you can ignore part 2, though you may find it still contains some useful ideas that are convenient to follow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part one: Rules for All.
1. Auctions must run from the 24th to the 28th of the month.
2. Auctions must be listed in the Your Donation Counts sub-category of the Charity Auctions category.
3. Your items must be listed on eBid.net and must comply with all eBid's listing rules.
4. Your auction(s) must be for a charity or good cause.
5. YDC nn (the number of the current YDC) must be included in the auction title.
You can list as many items as you wish. You do not have to support the nominated charity, you are free to choose any cause you wish. If you would like to support the nominated charity, that's great. Please try to offer your auctions to as many international destinations as possible, for maximum YDC visibility.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part two: Rules for the competition.
1. Auctions should have a start price of 99p or less. (or local equivalent.) The website xe.com is a good place to check currency exchanges.
2. No item should have an expected value of more than £20.00 (or local equivalent). Higher value items are still welcome in YDC but should not be considered competition entries.
3. No reserve or Buy Now price should be used, nor should any listing enhancements such as Featured.
4. Please make sure your end time on the 28th matches your start time on the 24th, so that your auction only runs for exactly four days - no extending from very early on the 24th to late on the 28th, please.
5. YDC nn (the number of the current YDC) must be included in the title, preferably as shown with a space between the letters and the numbers.
6. Naturally, your items must be listed on eBid.net and must comply with all eBid's listing rules.
7. Your auction(s) must be for a charity or good cause and the description of your item must include the following text:
This auction is an entry in the YDC nn charity auction competition. All money raised by this auction will go to: charity.
8. Please do not charge more than cost price for shipping / postage.
Don't forget to come and join in the fun pimping your items on the 24th in the Kitchen Table forum ! There will be a tally thread in the charity forum on the 28th where you can come and report how much charity money you have made and post receipts.

Thanks for your reply meebo and cornishmaid. I have never done a charity auction before and obviously want to do it right. I know my charity has a charity number etc. If I raise any money for HME how are they paid - do I have to send money to them or is it automatically donated.
Any advice would really be appreciated- especially how to set it up. Cheers.
ps. HME (Hereditary Multiple Exostoses) is an inherited bone disease
Willo - depends on the charity. Lots of them have websites set up where people can individually send their donations. This lets people know the moeny goes where they intend, as well as allowing them to do the tax gifting, as well. Or you can collect and send it yourself, and then sellers usually post a receipt from the charity for the total sent. Glad you are here!

Hi HerMajesty. So if I sent up an auction with the charity details the winning bidder can pay via the charity or else by me? I know they have a giftaid account (just looked it up) but would prefer everthing going via the charity as giftaid takes 5%.
Will also try to contact Helen at HME to see what she thinks. Cheers.
I've found a couple of links for you one is for research and the other for a support group where you can pay your money in. I don't know which one you prefer ? Just ask your buyer if they would be kind enough to use the paypal send money (friends and family option) to you as it is a charity item as it saves the fee and then you can pay the money in.
