I've no idea why the BBC have done this...it has completely spoiled the surprise of Dr Who's regeneration.... the thoughts of I prefer the old doctor, he's very young looking, he's very old looking, he's going to be a bit weird, he's not ginger, what's going on, why is he doing that.... all in the space of 10 seconds.

I think it may have something to do with the fact that the press have always leaked who, Who was going to be before the regeneration anyway.
So the BBC can put a bit of pomp on and tell it all "offic'al like."
Mind you I am still a bit intrigued as to why/how John Hurt gets to be the Doctor?

OK, so I was wrong.

When I wrote the original post I thought I was starting a rumour. I reckoned that I had a 50% chance of being right and looking like I had the inside scoop. I wasn't aware, at the time, that several women's names were being touted by the press as a possible next doctor.

Can't say I reckon much to the 'chosen one'. I only know him from a few bits of 'The Thick of It' that I have caught in passing, and didn't reckon much to him. He might make something of it though. Not that I watch Doctor Who nowadays, so it will not affect me any way. If he wasn't dead I would vote to bring back Patrick Troughton.

I thought the earlier suggestion on this thread of Stephen Fry was a good one; he has the whacky side to him that the doctors seem to need. I suppose the episode where he strung himself up from the Tardis center console wouldn't be deemed suitable for children though.

Bring back William Hartnell! Actually while I liked the sinister looking doctors, I quite like some of the modern day doctors too. I hated the one that thought he was funny... forget who it was now. Doctor Who should have a serious/sinister side to it. Its what made all the kids hide behind the settee when it was on.

Matt Smith was pretty good, it meant something when the Doctor was on your case.. ignore him at your peril kind of way.

I just hope this new guy is as good, orange legs or not.

Dr Who has some female relatives - he has a grand daughter, Susan, a daughter, Jenny and a wife, River.

There's lots of stories left for the next 50 years of Dr Who.

Isn't there a limit on the number of times he can regenerate? I seem to recall it being mentioned sometime.
