Thread: LSI is comming

  1. #1

    Default LSI is comming

Just got done talking with a couple of techies and they were talking about LSI replacing SEO. I really have my day cut out because I'm not familiar with Latent Search Indexing. But they said that's what Google is using and it will effect our ranking in the search engines. I was wondering why I don't see my auction in the Google Shopping as much as I use to.

So it seems that LSI is a method used by search engines to work out what you meant rather than sticking specifically to what you typed.

If you typed "What is a boddleflop?" LSI might give you answers that include alternative names that a boddleflop is known by, even if they don't actually mention a boddleflop, whereas the standard search results would only give you results that specifically contain the (made up) word boddleflop.

This method tries to get around the problem of having to perform multiple separate searches using every variation of a word or every alternative name for a thing.

However, it seems to me that the user will end up having to sift through much more of the results to see if the content is relevant than they would if the results just relied on specific keywords rather than on concepts.

This explains why I find google less useful than it was! It keeps altering names I've typed. If I wanted Madeleine I would have typed Madeleine, for example. Googling for obscure family history references has become much more difficult.
    Madelaine

4 shops for Cats Protection & Prospect Hospice
    My Postcard Shop
    BK Stamps for Philatelic listings
    & Yarnalong for craft patterns
    and
Lotzabitz -anything that doesn't belong in one of the other shops.

I think its a step backwards, google brings up too many unrelated results as it is. I need to refine a search more, not include all other remotely related results as well.

I mean... google the word 'spoon' I get right at the top a rock band! Who on earth thinks that is the most relevant result?

    Fork Handles to them!!
